I love nerding out on dashboards. Especially when someone can take an ugly dataset and make it beautiful.

That’s what @shivaraj did.

He took all of the data from Doug Demuro’s “Doug Score” and made it into a usable Dashboard that anyone can use.

📈 Microsoft Power BI gets a massive update

Microsoft has launched a new end-to-end data and analytics platform called Fabric. Fabric is a platform that brings together a number of Microsoft data and analytics products, including Power BI, Azure Data Factory, and Azure Synapse Analytics.

Fabric is designed to make it easier for businesses to collect, store, analyze, and share data. It also includes a number of new features, such as a no-code development experience and a real-time analytics platform.

Power BI is integrated with Fabric, which makes it easy for users to connect to data sources, build reports and dashboards, and share their insights with others.

And with the new AI Insights feature rolled into Power BI, you’ll be able to build out your dashboards faster than ever.

Here’s the breakdown of the new release:

• Accelerator Data Mapping - Automatically map fields from a user’s data source. Basically, these are pre-built dashboards with insights into specific industries or departments

• Slack Enhancements - Make it even easier to put data at the center of every conversation and decision.

• Identity Pools - Allows multiple identity stores and authentication mechanisms. Useful for external users.

How to design and build a great dashboard

Dale over at Geckoboard.com put together an amazing tutorial on how to build a great dashboard.

So many takeaways here like:

• Be clear about your goals. What do you want to achieve with your dashboard? Once you know your goals, you can start to select the right data and metrics to track.

• Keep it simple. Don't overload your dashboard with too much information. Focus on the most important metrics and make sure they are easy to understand.

• Use visuals effectively. Charts and graphs can help you to visualize your data and make it easier to understand.

• Test your dashboard. Get feedback from your team and make sure your dashboard is easy to use and understand.
